More than 425,000 Catalans reside abroad, 5% more than last year

The number of Catalans residing abroad is 427,423 as of January 1, 2026, a 5.1% increase from the previous year, according to the Institut d'Estadística de Catalunya (Idescat). Of these, two-thirds were born in other countries—, while 30% were born in Catalonia— and 3.2% in Spain.
