BarcelonaThe Rome Prosecutor's Office is investigating the circumstances of the death of a young Italian in Barcelona after his family filed a complaint, as reported by various Italian media outlets such as la Repubblica. According to police sources consulted by ARA, the events date back to the afternoon of May 29 in the city center, at Portal de l'Àngel.

The same sources report that the young man entered a commercial establishment agitated and was detained by security guards until the arrival of the Mossos d'Esquadra, who, given his agitated state, restrained him on the ground. While the Emergency Medical System (SEM) was attending to him, the young man suffered cardiorespiratory arrest. Medical personnel were able to stabilize him and transfer him to the hospital, but he died three days later at the medical center.

In addition to the investigation by the Rome Prosecutor's Office at the family's request, the Barcelona courts also have an open case regarding these events. This is a standard procedure in most deaths that are not considered natural, initially. Some Italian media outlets specify that traces of methamphetamines were found in the young man's blood during the autopsy. In any case, the family, through a lawyer, has requested a thorough investigation of the events and a new autopsy. The family also wants the security cameras of the premises, which show the moment the young man was immobilized, to be thoroughly analyzed to determine if the action was proportionate.
