The friends of the woman murdered in Sant Martí describe a decade of abuse by the partner

The assaults were continuous, but she never reported it for fear that he would kill her or harm her two children, only eight and four years old. This dramatic situation is what the woman who died last Tuesday night in the Sant Martí district of Barcelona was experiencing, stabbed by her partner, who this Friday the court for violence against women has sent to preventive detention. In her ruling, the judge highlights the testimony of the victim's friends, who describe a spiral of constant and lasting violence.
In the ruling to send him to prison without bail, the judge describes the extreme violence with which the man, Y.G.M., acted, attacking the victim in front of her two children and stabbing her eleven times with a 20-centimeter dagger. Furthermore, at that moment, in the apartment, located on Andrade street, there were two friends of the victim who saw how the man attacked her. It was one of the children (a minor) who asked a neighbor for help, saying that their mother had been killed. Meanwhile, Y.G.M. fled the home and five hours later turned himself in at the Mossos d'Esquadra police station in Eixample, admitting that he had stabbed her.
The judge also issued a protection order this Friday regarding the two minor children, who are now under the guardianship of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Specifically, the father will not be able to approach or communicate with them. Nor will he be able to do so with the victim's parents. The judge has also agreed to seize the assets of the investigated person for future civil liabilities.
The antecedents
As reported by ARA on Thursday, the man reported the victim two weeks ago for mistreatment of him and his children, and the woman ended up arrested. The court decided not to impose a restraining order on the woman. However, the Prosecutor's Office did request that this precautionary measure be imposed. In a statement this Thursday, it clarified that it did so not only for the investigation of the reported facts, but also for "the need to prevent minors from continuing to be exposed to a family context" that, with the information they had, they already saw as "detrimental to their safety and their proper development". The court decided not to impose this restraining order, and the Prosecutor's Office appealed the decision. On Thursday, the Prosecutor's Office wanted to clarify that its action responded "exclusively" to its duty to protect children.
