Turull gathers Junts mayors amid Aliança Catalana's growth
The national governing board organizes a meeting to analyze the party's direction
BarcelonaThe national board of Junts has convened this Monday at six in the afternoon a municipal summit with about twenty officials, including lead candidates and mayors of regional capitals in the country, to close the year by addressing the party's main challenges. And among these, the decline in surveys like the CEO's, just four days ago, and the rise of Aliança Catalana at the expense of the unionists reflected in it. With less than a year to go until the municipal elections and only three days before the resolution of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on the amnesty, the general secretary, Jordi Turull, has led the direction in the online meeting, in which militants from multiple regions have expressed their opinion on the party's course in a complex context.
The mayors are focused on the municipal elections, and one of the objectives of the meeting is to close ranks with common criteria to address shared concerns, such as the rising phenomenon of the far-right. They have discussed "how to confront it", although other voices emphasize that "there is also an interest in inflating Alliance" and that firmness in the juntaire roadmap must be maintained regardless of the context. According to consulted sources, it is one of the periodic meetings held every few months to foster "the coordination of the local world with the national leadership" on key matters, within the party's open internal channels. The national leadership does not wish to comment on "internal meetings", as they responded to ARA.
Discrepancies
In the territory, various mayors, councilors, and officials view the advance of Aliança Catalana with concern. Several sources consulted by this newspaper maintain that the analysis of why Junts is losing momentum and the clarification of future steps should have been carried out "some time ago."
"We are used to going against the current, ever since Convergència, and we have to keep the CEO in mind, but we need a line to follow," assures another voice present at the meeting. In the party there is a feeling that the polls tend to underestimate them – the usual example they put forward is precisely that of the CEO before the 2024 elections–, but there is also concern from part of the municipal world about the national direction. "Polls must be read, but they must be put into perspective," assures another source. Some dissenting voices with the leadership or others who have not yet been ratified as heads of list did not participate in this Monday's meeting.
