Illa appears for the two years of "good government" between crises and resignations

Salvador Illa's political year has begun just as it ended and, despite the fact that before the holidays he already appeared to review his two years at the head of the Government, the president of the Generalitat plans to give explanations again this Monday at 7 p.m. and evaluate the half-term he completed on August 8, according to executive sources.

The socialist leader, who claims to be the head of "good governance", has seen headaches pile up in various departments since he arrived at the Palau de la Generalitat, especially in Education, Infrastructure, and Interior. Without going any further, last week the director general of Police, Josep Lluís Trapero, resigned, who was one of Illa's great electoral promises. And, previously, the right-hand woman of minister Núria Parlon, Tomás Carrión, had already left the department. Moves that the opposition took advantage of to brand the management of the PSC executive as "chaotic", which sees that polls reflect a certain disenchantment and a slight decrease in electoral support.

Beyond Interior, which was in the spotlight mainly due to the infiltration of Mossos in a teachers' assembly and the use of pepper spray against protesters, the Government continues to be unable to put an end to the teachers' protests, who already started the school year with a strike. In fact, the number 2 of Education has also stepped down in recent days –after the failure with the PISA tests– as well as the head of the juvenile centers, although the Government dissociates this departure from the Manresa crime.

In these two years of the legislative term, Illa's government has also had to face successive Rodalies crises, which at any moment could once again be at the center of controversy, and it is expected that Sílvia Paneque, who is the executive's spokesperson and Minister of Territory, will return to Girona as a candidate for mayor. Beyond one of the strongest profiles in the Government, there are also sources pointing to at least one other potential resignation, the Minister of Health, Olga Pané. Before the summer, the Minister of Social Rights had already left the executive, Mònica Martínez Bravo.
