Brussels will send to Spain 114.7 million euros to deal with the Ceuta crisis
The EU will also send operational support to the autonomous cities
The European Commission has announced that it will send 114.7 million euros in emergency assistance to Spain to help manage the situation in Ceuta, following the massive entry of migrants at the end of July. This financial support is based on the Commission's immediate response from day one, when it offered Spain both financial and operational assistance.
In parallel, Brussels has coordinated the deployment of key agencies such as Frontex, Europol, and the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) in the autonomous cities. The action on the ground by these organizations responds to the request for operational support made by Spain to reinforce the control and management of the situation at the border.
The decision on this emergency funding responds to the formal request that Spain submitted on August 24, which the Commission treated as a priority. Brussels has managed the request in permanent coordination with the Spanish executive. Specifically, the 114.7 million euros come from the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (82.7 million euros) and the Border Management and Visa Instrument (32 million euros).
