The illusion of a certain order based on democratic expansion in the world ended, most likely, on September 11, 2001. Perhaps it was only an illusion that justified the hyper-leadership of the United States, but the fact is that the instructions for use of international relations began to be torn apart until reaching the chaos of today.
25 years after the collapse of the building that was the symbol of the economy and power of the USA we are in full metamorphosis, without knowing into what monstrous creature we will end up becoming. The traditional alliances of the West no longer work and the world is being divided into areas of influence dominated by three men who share a virile style and a relationship with power and money of a mafia style.
25 years ago a blind war was declared against Islamist terrorism that turned into an indiscriminate crusade, which did not culminate in democratic processes but rather atomizing, chaotic and totalitarian ones. The Arab Springs were stifled and the wars in Syria, Afghanistan, Libya and sub-Saharan Africa caused massive migratory waves of people fleeing war, dictatorship and poverty. Human movements towards rich countries driven by war and the pauperization added by climate change. During these years, the embrace of the capitalist system and globalization boosted the economy of China, which has managed to lift 800 million people out of poverty. But the negative effects of globalization and its reaction have contributed to seizing up the middle class of European and North American economies. In recent years, the speed of technological change has been added to social and economic uncertainties, and has begun to affect the labor world and even the conception of what is human.
Europe
With this landscape, today resentment runs through Europe, and neither Catalonia nor Spain are the exception. Of the three great powers, two consider it a target to be taken down. The USA and Russia, with Chinese acquiescence, are allies to divide up a world in which Europe bothers them. The attack against Ukraine is part of Putin's strategic plans to recover the Russian Empire and avenge the betrayal of Europe after the humiliating disappearance of the USSR. As for the USA, Trump is taking steps towards disconnecting from partners he believes are freeloading on fundamental expenses such as defense, and he combats the social democrats, whom he despises by fueling the centrifugal forces of the far right that can destroy it from within.
In practice, we have moved from the Cold War to the collapse of the international order and the turbo-capitalist wave, to being submerged in a hybrid war of the three great predators competing among themselves while simultaneously dividing the spoils. The gray zone of hybrid war consists of destabilizing from within to widen the cracks and make the wounds bleed. The attacks are against invisible infrastructures and against public opinion on issues that are already divisive and that stoke fear. A sentimental policy when people fear losing their footing with immigration and traditional values. That is why Sánchez will not emerge unscathed from the crisis with Morocco. European reactionary forces, aligned with the United States, are smoking a cigar watching how Pedro Sánchez is literally overwhelmed by a flood of immigrants after the great regularization. The crisis contains all the elements for a bad outcome if the EU sabotages the solution. It is a demographic and economic crisis, one of nationalist effervescence, which stokes fear of the migratory influx and is easy to link to issues of public safety.
The Spanish government has outsourced the Ceuta and Melilla border to the Alaouite kingdom and is at the mercy of the mood of a corrupt leadership. No one believes that a repressive system like Rabat's did not detect the movement of at least seventy-five thousand people. In the midst of negotiating a new strategic partnership agreement with Europe, Morocco has bared its teeth at Europe and slapped Sánchez. Neither its American nor its Israeli allies will regret it, and Trump's immediate reaction proves that its actions are rewarded for Rabat. For a time, Hassan II was one of our satraps, those who controlled their countries under the boot, maintaining an order favorable to Europe and the USA. Today, Morocco is a ticking time bomb for demographic, economic, and repressive reasons.
