2 years and 4 months to comply with a law
To no one's surprise, Feijóo has threatened education in Catalan in schools and has brought the concept of "indoctrination" out of the arsenal: "There will be no impositions or indoctrination in the classrooms." Translated, it means that education in Spanish is normal and that in Catalan it is an imposition. That October 12th is history but September 11th would be indoctrination. That children dressed as legionnaires or bullfighters are not the result of any imposition, but teaching notions about the social construction of gender would be.
By now we know by heart that the definition of imposition and indoctrination depends on who has the power to decide what is normal, which is the states. With an aggravating factor for our language and our government: what for Feijóo is indoctrination, is also so for a good part of the justice administration. One only needs to look at the rulings on the 25% of Catalan. Or that it has taken two years and four months for the amnesty law approved by Congress to be applied. In other words, a PP and Vox government has not been necessary to have had to endure offensives against Catalan or blockades of the amnesty.
And this leads us to the beginning of all things, which is identity. It will not be talked about much in these elections, because they will be hijacked by the right/left debate. But reality is stubborn: to give Catalan the same legal status as Spanish, for trains to work, or for the government of Catalonia to be well-funded, we either have sovereignty or we will be at the mercy of the condescension of those who now ask us for help to stop fascism, as if fascism were only the thing of one party, as if it were not a pre-existing and structural Spanish reality, as if we did not always vote differently here.
