A comedy that's truly funny and 'Wednesday' among the six most notable series of August
Netflix premieres the second season of its hit show starring Jenna Ortega.


BarcelonaIn August, everything is running at half speed, including the platforms. Even so, some have a few tricks up their sleeves. Taking advantage of the lack of competition, Netflix is releasing a new season of one of its biggest hits of recent years, WednesdayBeyond Jenna Ortega's series, there are some other productions I might do in August.
August 6
The haunting daughter of the Addams Family returns with new adventures and new supernatural mysteries. For the first time in her life, Wednesday voluntarily agrees to return to a school, Nevermore, but to her horror, her entire family will be much more present on campus. Aside from her parents and little brother, her grandmother, the only family member for whom the gothic teenager feels a certain sympathy, will also make an appearance. The second season will feature a special guest, singer Lady Gaga, who will play a renowned Nevermore teacher who will cross the protagonist's path.
As it has done with other successful series that involve a large production effort, Netflix will release the second season of Wednesday in two batches. The first arrives in August and the second on September 3.
August 6
In a time when pure comedy is increasingly difficult to find, it's a joy to have series that make us laugh. That's what it achieves. Platonic, about the crazy friendship between Will and Sylvia. In this new installment, the two friends will have to find a way to manage the responsibilities of middle age with their desire for fun. Proof of its popularity is the decision to create a spin-off series that functions as a prequel to the original and can be watched independently. Outlander: Blood of My Blood It has the ingredients every fan desires: romance and Scottish landscapes. The series takes place in two time periods: the First World War and the 18th century, and the protagonists are two different couples: Claire's parents and Jamie's parents. The series is already filming a second season.

Big film brands are always interesting for platforms. This August we will have the umpteenth example with the premiere of a series set in the universe ofAlien and signed by Noah Hawley, creator of a film-inspired franchise such as Fargo. In the year 2120, the Earth is ruled by five corporations and humans coexist with cyborgs (humans with biological and artificial parts) and synthetics (humanoid robots with artificial intelligence). Everything changes when hybrids appear, humanoid robots endowed with consciousness, Wendy, will collide with one of the most terrifying life forms on the planet.

Although Amanda Knox's name is not as well-known in Europe, her case shook the United States. The American spent four years in an Italian prison, unjustly convicted of the murder of Meredith Kercher, her roommate while they were on an academic exchange in Perugia. The miniseries, released on Disney+, explores Knox's struggle to prove her innocence and regain her freedom in eight episodes.
August 29
If you want a short proposal for hot days, Two graves can do it. This three-part miniseries directed by Catalan director Kike Maíllo focuses on the disappearance of two 16-year-old friends, Verónica and Marta. Two years after losing track of them and the police declaring the case closed, the grandmother of one of them decides to investigate on her own. The role of the grandmother is played by Kiti Manver, accompanied by Álvaro Morte (the Professor of The Money Heist) and Hovik Keuchkerian. Behind the project are members of the pseudonym Carmen Mola, winner of the 70th Planeta Prize: The story was created by Agustín Martínez, while the scripts were written by Jorge Díaz and Antonio Mercero.
