Lobato wins the race to see who is the biggest suck-up to Madrid
BarcelonaFormula 1 fans gave their verdict on Sunday regarding the Formula 1 race in Madrid. Searching with the keywords Madring (which is the name of the circuit) and boring resulted in endless lists of complaints from viewers. So much so, that even Minister Puente saw an opportunity to chime in and described it as a "dud".
However, for the Ayuso-supporting press, the Spanish Grand Prix was the most vibrant in history. The award for the biggest sycophant was won, after a tough competition in which the DAZN commentators should also be included, by Antonio Lobato in an article in El Mundo that carried a title that, no joke, I had thought of using as an ironic headline for this Stop the presses: "From Madring to the sky". Inside the text, after admitting that the race had been like a Holy Week procession, he could not have been more laudatory: "The success of this edition has been incontestable, surprising, brilliant [...]. A colossal construction that has been taken care of down to the last detail". Everyone highlights, mind you, the disappointment caused to the Spanish fans by the poor performance, and even the mutual recriminations, of the two Spanish drivers, Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz.
Among the newspapers, the one that strikes the best balance is El País, which, despite joining the success narrative bandwagon, also highlights the neighborhood protests. All the newspapers based in Madrid feature the Grand Prix as their cover photo. In Catalonia, things are more divided. ARA bets on Barça's victory in Valencia against Levante, La Vanguardia places the winner of the Vuelta, the Mallorcan Enric Mas, and El Periódico, oh, surprise, is the only one that carries the Madring on its cover and, even stranger, not a trace of Barça.
