Broncano did not have to give in to Abascal

I do not know if David Broncano was playing a chicken game and invited Santiago Abascal to La revuelta crossing his fingers very hard so that the Vox member would decline the offer. If that was the case, it shows that he does not understand how the far-right works, as it takes advantage of any loudspeaker to launch its victimhood discourse, even more so if it can go to RTVE to complain about public television (even though their presence on the program undermines some of their claims). In any case, it is incomprehensible that he agreed to Abascal's demand to record his interview without an audience. It would be like throwing in the towel and adopting an attitude of submission that highlights the weakness of a brilliant presenter when you take him out of entertainment and comedy and face him with the high-stakes game. He should have held his ground, against Vox... and against the network.

To make matters worse, his colleague Héctor de Miguel said from La Séptima that Broncano is interviewing Abascal because he is forced to by the Central Electoral Board (JEC). This is not true, and in wanting to do his friend a favor, he has put him even more on the spot. Television stations do have to observe proportionality and balance when reporting on elections during the campaign period, but a distinction is usually made between informative and entertainment programming. However, it is important to remember that no specific provision is made a priori, because the Electoral Board – which, despite its name, is an organization more political than judicial – does not establish jurisprudence, so the channels can interpret the LOREG in the broadest possible way, make their proposals, and it is then up to the parties to challenge them. Too much misinformation, then, and too much noise behind this interview. The big winner, of course, is Abascal: the program will be seen this Monday, but the Vox member has already won the round, regardless of the minor tickles Broncano may try to give him in front of the cameras.
