At least three dead and several injured in a train derailment in Germany.
Emergency teams are working to rescue passengers trapped in the carriages.

BarcelonaA train derailed Sunday night in the southern German state of Baden-Württemberg, killing three people and injuring several others, German police confirmed. They added that some of the injured are in serious condition. Emergency teams—firefighters and police—were working Sunday afternoon to rescue passengers trapped in the cars. "Two cars of a regional train derailed Sunday afternoon. According to the current status of the investigation, three people have died and other passengers are seriously injured," federal police in Stuttgart reported.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, but the local newspaper Schwäbische Zeitung suggested that the cause was a landslide caused by the severe storms in the area in recent days. This hypothesis gained strength after the statement to the media by the Minister of the Interior of Baden-Württemberg, Thomas Strobl: "It has rained a lot here, so it cannot be ruled out that the heavy rains and an associated landslide were the cause."
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz was quick to react via social media. "We mourn the loss of the victims. I want to express my condolences to the affected families," he wrote. He added: "The train accident in the Biberach district has deeply affected me. I am in close contact with the Ministers of the Interior and Transport, and I have asked them to give all possible support to the rescue services."
The accident occurred at around 6:10 p.m. near the town of Riedlingen, south of Stuttgart, in the state of Baden-Württemberg. According to a federal police spokesperson quoted by the newspaper PictureThe accident involved a regional train belonging to the public operator Deutsche Bahn, traveling between Sigmaringen and Ulm. Approximately 100 people were traveling at the time of the accident. Services on the affected railway line are suspended until further notice.
