A German tourist has been rescued after 12 days missing in the Australian wilderness.
Carolina Wilga, 26, was trapped in a deserted area after her car got stuck in a wooded area.

BarcelonaLast Friday, Australian police reported the rescue of a German tourist who had been missing for twelve days in Western Australia, a remote area teeming with wild animals and freezing temperatures at night. A hiker found the 26-year-old traveler, identified as Carolina Wilga, on a forest road in a nature reserve and contacted authorities. Once rescued, she was taken to a Perth hospital for evaluation.
"She's been eaten by mosquitoes. She's obviously been through an incredible experience, a trauma, and will undoubtedly be a testament to her bravery in the current circumstances," Inspector Martin Glynn of the Western Australia Police told reporters on Friday. "She doesn't appear to have any serious injuries, although she obviously has many significant minor injuries," he noted. He also emphasized that the tourist had survived in a "very hostile environment," both in terms of its wildlife and weather conditions.
The traveler, last seen on June 29 at a convenience store in the small community of Beacon, 313 kilometers northeast of Perth, became stranded in a remote area when the car she was traveling in got stuck in a wooded area. Authorities deployed a large ground and air rescue operation and located the abandoned vehicle on Thursday. However, they did not specify where she was found or how far she had strayed from the vehicle.
