The only viewpoint from which you can see all of Barcelona and the sunset with a glass of bubbles in your hand
The Glòries Tower and Recaredo design an activity from Thursday to Sunday on the top floor of the iconic building where there is a 360-degree view over the city
BarcelonaIt is called Torre Glòries. For many Barcelonians it will always be the Torre Agbar or other popular names inspired by its shape, such as the suppository. And it is the only building that allows you to see the entire city of Barcelona, 360 degrees. The reason is that it is in the center planned by Ildefons Cerdà, in Plaça de les Glòries. Designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel, his intention was to emulate a geyser, as it was to be for the water company. Now it is an office building, but the 30th floor and the entire top cap, at 125 meters high, have been enabled as a privileged viewpoint.
The viewpoint is open to the public and this summer the Skywine Experience, directed by the Recaredo winery team, can be enjoyed. The schedule is from 7 PM to 9:30 PM from Thursday to Sunday. The tasting experience lasts half an hour and is led by two Recaredo technicians, after which you can stay at the viewpoint for as long as you wish. They will be there until September 20th and it allows you to taste three wines – one still and two sparkling wines from Corpinnat – in addition to seeing the exhibition space in the basement.
The view step by step
The entrance to go up to the viewpoint is not the main entrance of the building. It's on the side, and it's very visible and well-signposted. Contrary to what it might seem, the visit begins by going down. There is an exhibition space they call the Hyperviewpoint. The idea is to discover things about the city that you don't see with the naked eye. It represents the stars that are in the sky at that moment (if we could see them), what a scarf would do if we spread it out on the 30th floor depending on the wind, the state of the sea, air pollution. All real-time information projected on an immense 27-meter screen. There is also the music of Maria Arnal, the tribute to the living beings that inhabit the city (those we like and those we don't) by Joan Sallas from Badalona, and staggering data like the more than 700,000 vehicles that cross the city every day. This visit can be followed with an audioguide, it is interactive and very interesting. Afterwards, you take the elevator and go up. When the elevator starts, you can see it going up through the glass roof.
Once on the 30th floor, the views and the tasting begin. The Recaredo team will explain what Recaredo is, from the history of its founder, Josep Mata Capellades, who was a player for CE Sabadell, to the creation, together with other wineries, of the Corpinnat seal to guarantee the quality of sparkling wine in the Penedès. Many people, when they see the tasting, sign up for it once they are upstairs. It's an option they allow. However, if purchased in advance, it's cheaper and guarantees your spot. The entire experience, from the visit to the tasting, is worth 28 euros if purchased beforehand. If purchased there, it costs 31. They also sell the wine, as once the tasting is over, many people want to take a bottle with them.
The white wine Miranius 2024 from Celler Credo is tasted. A monovarietal xarel·lo that allows us to appreciate this variety that represents the region. Afterwards, for the sparkling wines, Recaredo l’Infinit 2023 can be tasted. It is a new reference they have released to the market and have produced with various winemakers. A collective wine intended to be drunk in festive settings. "We want to take wine out of gastronomic settings and bring it everywhere there is culture," they say from Recaredo. The third sparkling wine tasted is Recaredo L’Infinit Rosat 2021. Made from xarel·lo and garnacha negra, it is a unique case, as it is not for sale and you can only taste it here. It will be marketed next year. The tasting takes place every half hour and a group can have a maximum of 15 people.
Finally, if you like adventure, there is a floating and walkable sculpture, made of steel cables and platforms designed by the Argentine artist Tomás Saraceno. It is located on the ceiling of the building and is not suitable for claustrophobic people, people with vertigo, those who are not agile, or those wearing shoes that do not keep the foot well secured.
