'Sirât' and 'Los domingos' lead the Goya Award nominations
The other favorites of the Spanish Film Academy are 'Maspalomas', 'La cena' and 'Sorda'
BarcelonaTwo very different liturgies provide the context for the two films most nominated for the Goya awards, which will be presented on February 28 in Barcelona: Sundays, ofAlauda Ruiz de Azúawith 13 nominations, and Sirât, by Oliver Laxe, with 11. One has the Catholic Church as its backdrop, and the other culture radishAnd both have generated intense debate, both among critics and viewers. One for excessively straining the dynamic of moral equidistance when it comes to a teenager's religious vocation; and the other for hammering home the point of so-called "cinema of cruelty." In any case, they are two works with a great deal of cinematic substance and that manage to prolong their impact beyond the closing credits.
Obviously, both Sirât as Sundays They are vying for the top prize for best film, a category in which they compete with Dinner, by Manuel Gómez Pereira; Maspalomas, by Aitor Arregi and Jose Mari Goenaga; and Deafby Eva Libertad. Ruiz de Azúa and Laxe are also among the five candidates for best director, along with Carla Simón for PilgrimageAlbert Serra by Afternoon of solitude (which is nominated for best documentary) and Arregi and Goenaga.
Among the 11 nominations of Sirât There are none in the six acting categories, while Sundays It has accumulated five nominations: Best Actress (Patricia López Arnaiz), Best Actor (Miguel Garcés), Best Supporting Actress (Nagore Aramburu), Best Supporting Actor (Juan Minujín), and Best New Actress (Blanca Soroa).

Also noteworthy is the strong performance ofStrange riverThe debut film by Jaume Claret Muxart, which has nominations for best new director and best new actor (Jan Monter Palau).
The Cervantes Brothers
Established as two talents of Catalan acting, siblings Ángela and Álvaro Cervantes are among the nominees for best actress and best supporting actor: she for The fury, the film by Barcelona native Gemma Blasco, and he for his role in Deaf, the film by Eva Libertad.
