BarcelonaRumors about the death of superhero cinema have turned out to be exaggerated. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the new installment of the arachnid hero's saga, has debuted at the international box office with a staggering €804.3 million gross, the second-largest figure in history (unadjusted for inflation), surpassed only by the €1.041 billion of the premiere of The Avengers: Endgame (2019). The film starring Tom Holland has also premiered with record box office figures in North America, with an estimated 308 million euros in its opening weekend, nearing the 309.7 million from the US premiere ofThe Avengers: Endgame.

The new Spider-Man has also swept the State, where since Wednesday it has accumulated 12.5 million euros and nearly one and a half million viewers. Spider-Man: Brand new day has dethroned Torrent president as the best premiere of the year, and also of the decade. In fact, the day the film premiered was the best Wednesday in Spanish box office history, and the next day it also shattered the historical records for a Thursday.

If we limit the results to the three days of the weekend, Spider-Man has added 7.74 million euros to the Spanish box office, which added to the 2.97 million from The Odyssey have turned the first weekend of August into the best of 2026, with 1.5 million viewers in cinemas in Spain. In the United States, the sum of efforts by Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey has also brought the North American box office to an estimated global gross of 373.13 million, a figure that, if confirmed this Monday, would be the largest in history (without adjusting for inflation). Although this is the third weekend in cinemas for The Odyssey, the new Spider-Man has already surpassed the worldwide box office of Christopher Nolan's film, which nevertheless has accumulated a very impressive 790.5 million euros at the global box office.

Spider-Man's new adventure has also surpassed the previous record of the arachnid saga, which held Spider-Man: no way home (2022) with a U.S. debut of $225.62 million. That movie, Tom Holland's third as Spider-Man, went on to gross $1.648.7 million at the worldwide box office.

With the premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel now has the four best openings in history at the North American box office: The Avengers: Endgame (309.7 million), Spider-Man: Brand New Day (308 million –estimated–), Spider-Man: No Way Home (225.6 million), and The Avengers: Infinity War (223 million). And all eyes are on the upcoming premiere of The Avengers: Doomsday, which will hit theaters on December 18.
