Focus celebrates 40 years with a record audience and a season marked by great returns

BarcelonaFocus reaches 40 years in a golden moment. Last season, the four theaters of the Focus Group, Romea, Condal, La Villarroel and Goya, reached a record figure of public (534,000 spectators) and revenue (14.7 million euros). 68 shows could be seen there, of which 1,402 performances were held. "It has now been five years of good fortune and on this journey, from record to record, today we have added a new challenge that forces us not to lose our step, maintain the rhythm and reach next August with the satisfaction of a job well done," said the group's president, Daniel Martínez, this Friday. "In times of peak social and political discontent, culture and, very especially, theater, offers us moments of emotional rationality and intelligent entertainment, which allow us to take a breath to endure all this series of existential crises that make up our day to day," added Martínez.

The 2026/27 theater season draws attention for the large number of revivals that can be seen, often due to the success the productions had. At the Goya, it will be the fourth consecutive season that the Lorca monologue performed by Lolita Poncia (until September 27).Later on, the third season of Un sogre de lloguer (from December 17 to January 10), starring Joan Pera, will arrive; and the second of the comedy of errors Una idea genial, with Lluís Villanueva (from February 18 to March 14).

Also at the Goya, the adaptation of Dostoevsky's classic The Grand Inquisitor (from October 1st to 11th) is scheduled, featuring Lluís Homar and the musician duo Brugalla & Stambolov; Los días perfectos, an intimate look at couple relationships starring Leonardo Sbaraglia (from April 1st to 18th, 2018), and Les filles (from April 23rd to May 23rd), a tragicomedy directed by Jordi Casanovas about three sisters, played by Maria Molins, Rosa Boladeras, and Anna Sahun.

At the Teatre Romea, the season has begun with José Sacristán's monologue in homage to Fernando Fernán-Gómez, El hijo de la còmica (until October 4th), and will continue with the return of La Zaranda with the show Todos los ángeles alzaron el vuelo (from October 15th to 25th), and Palabra de perro, the stage adaptation that playwright Juan Mayorga has made of El coloquio de los perros, by Cervantes (from October 28th to November 8th). Later on, Josep Maria Flotats will return to the Romea with La promesa de l'alba (from November 14th to December 6th), a theatrical version of Romain Gary's autobiography. And in December, one of the great hits of the last edition of the Grec will return, The Picture of Dorian Gray (from December 17th to January 17th). Another of the novelties will be El botí, an irreverent comedy about corruption headlined by Pere Arquillué (from January 23rd to February 21st), while Josep Maria Pou will perform for the last time the lead role in Gegant (from March 25th to April 25th).

The play that will open the Condal season is the Spanish-language version of the comedy 53 diumenges, by Cesc Gay, starring Julián López, Pepa Charro, Xavi Mira, and Candela Serrat (from September 9th to 27th). One of the season's highlights will be Bons i dolents (from October 6th to November 1st), a play written and starring Joel Joan, "about friendships, hypocrisy, and personal crises." And, after the success achieved this year, in February 2027 the great musical will return Blood Brothers (from February 12th to March 14th).

In La Villarroel's programming, Primera llei de Newton, by Eu Manzanares, stands out, which was one of the great successes of the last Grec (until October 4). Pau Roca will direct Morning sun, a story of mothers and daughters with Anna Güell, Míriam Iscla, and Raquel Ferri (from October 9 to November 8). And Pau Carrió will head El niu, the Pulitzer Prize-winning text about the void left by the death of a son (from November 28 to January 10); the cast includes Mercè Arànega, Laura Aubert, Pep Ambrós, Júlia Molins, and Jan Gavilán.

Later on, also at La Villarroel, Anna Moliner and Joan Negrié will resume the love story of the successful You say tomato and I say potato. They can be seen, respectively, from February 20 to March 13 and from February 17 to March 14, 2027. The programming also includes Disección de la bondad en tres actos, by Titzina Teatro, a show about fraud that blends theater and illusionism (from March 18 to 28). In the spring, Un lloc comú will arrive, the play by Joan Yago directed by Joan Arqué where five women discover that they were deceived by the same man (from May 7 to June 6); the protagonists are Rosa Gàmiz, Victòria Pagès, Sandra Monclús, Tamara Ndong, and Laura Aubert. And the season will end with two more revivals: the successful Dones de ràdio (from April 2 to May 2) and Els fills, the hit starring Emma Vilarasau, Jordi Boixaderas, and Mercè Aránega (from July 1 to August 1).
