Wednesday of stalemate before a more extensive spell of downpours

BarcelonaThis Tuesday, showers and thunderstorms have fallen again in some areas, but in a more disconnected way and not as widespread as on Monday. They have mainly affected parts of the Pyrenees, the pre-coastal area, Central Catalonia, and the northeastern interior, with insignificant amounts of water. On Wednesday, the showers will be even more localized in areas of the Pyrenees and the Ports, with general calm, and especially heat and humidity that will remain intense. But on Thursday, instability will increase and showers will fall in many regions, especially in the interior, with some downpours. Meteocat has already issued warnings for intense rain on Thursday in many areas.

A change in weather that will also strengthen the north wind at the extremes. This will involve more cold air and a withdrawal of the North African warm air mass to the south, which will cause temperatures to drop. Therefore, between Thursday and Friday we will breathe a little better, but from the weekend the heat will pick up again strongly.

Wednesday: a day to take advantage of

The sun will generally dominate this Wednesday. There will only be some low morning clouds in coastal stretches that will increase the stuffy feeling. In the afternoon, showers will be more localized and will concentrate in parts of the Pyrenees and the Ports area, while calm will continue in the rest of the territories. A generally profitable day, with a north wind in the morning in Alt Empordà.

All in all, temperatures will remain similar or rise slightly, both day and night. The night will again be warm and stuffy in much of the coast, the pre-coast and the south, and cool in mountainous areas and nearby areas. Most of the maximums will range between 33 and 38°C in the pre-coast and inland, although they could approach 40°C in Ponent. On the coast, the values will be a little lower, but with a marked stuffiness.

Brief change of weather

Thursday will see increased instability, with showers and storms gaining ground. They could fall anywhere in the pre-coastal areas, inland, the Pyrenees, and the Pre-Pyrenees, while it will be more difficult to see rain on the coast. Downpours can occur in a short time, accompanied by hail, ice, or strong winds.

On Friday, showers will spread to areas in the northeast, and will repeat in the Pyrenees. All in all, this will cause a slight drop in temperatures, but at least it will make the heat more bearable, especially where it rains. On the coast is where the change will be noticed the least. In any case, this change will not last long, as intense heat will return from the weekend onwards.
