Storms in more regions to start a new suffocating week

BarcelonaWe leave behind a weekend that has been marked by intense heat and sultriness, but also by afternoon storms that on Saturday were strong and widespread in parts of the Pyrenees, pre-Pyrenees, Ebro, and northeast. A situation that will be repeated this Monday, with showers and thunderstorms that will gain ground in the afternoon in the western half of the country. Where it rains heavily, the atmosphere cools down suddenly. But we are talking about exceptions, as this new week will again be marked by heat, warm nights, and values clearly above average. An episode that will last for quite a few more days.

Monday: very hot and more storms

The first full week of August begins with sun combined again with some bands of high and medium clouds, as well as low clouds in parts of the coast and pre-coast, especially from the Ebre and Camp de Tarragona.

In the afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will repeat in the Pyrenees, pre-Pyrenees, and the Ports area. The novelty will be that they will also arrive from Aragon to the western regions, which could even approach the west of Central Catalonia. Locally they will be strong and may be accompanied by hail, sleet, or strong winds. For this reason, Meteocat extends alerts for intense rain to more regions in all these areas.

Heavy downpours will be accompanied by mud and will also cause a sudden drop in temperature. In fact, maximum temperatures will drop slightly inland and in the north of the country. But the general trend will continue to be very hot and muggy, with highs of 33 to 38 ºC on the coast and inland, and very oppressive conditions on the coast and coastland due to high humidity. The night has also been warm again in many places, and Meteocat has maintained the alert for nighttime heat in parts of Ponent and the central and southern coast and coastland.

The showers will increase

Throughout the week, afternoon showers and thunderstorms will repeat, especially in the north and west of the territory. Therefore, the rain will water these areas irregularly. It seems that from Thursday onwards these showers could increase, especially in the center and north of the country.

Furthermore, temperatures will remain soaring and well above average, with only a few ups and downs. There is no clear end in sight for this episode of intense heat that has been affecting us for days. Some maps indicate that temperatures could drop from the end of the week, but not all meteorological models are in agreement. We will have to be patient, because the atmosphere will be suffocating and very muggy, with sleepless nights in several regions.
