Last heatwave: the end of the worst part of summer is already in sight

BarcelonaWe leave behind a historic Wednesday at home due to the solar eclipse, which was total or slightly partial depending on the area of the country. Clear skies dominated most of the territory during the event and allowed us to enjoy this unique spectacle, although cloudy intervals were a nuisance, especially in parts of the Pyrenees, pre-Pyrenees, and nearby areas, such as the northeast. Once this exceptional event has passed, what weather awaits us in the coming days? Well, between Thursday and Friday, temperatures will hit their peak, and there will be a new torrid spell with suffocating conditions. But everything seems to indicate that it will be the grand finale of the worst part of the summer, as from the weekend the thermometers will begin to drop and instability will increase. Next week, the heat will be clearly more bearable and normalized for the second half of August.

Thursday: more heat

Thermometers will still rise further this Thursday. The night has been warm and stuffy across much of the coast, pre-coast, and southern half of the country, but tropical lows have also been recorded in other inland areas. As for the highs, many will range between 35 and 40 °C in the pre-coast and inland, with the highest values in Ponent and the Ebro valley, where these figures may be exceeded until Friday.

Suffocating atmosphere everywhere, and very stuffy near the sea. Meteocat maintains alerts for nighttime heat on the central coast and the Tarragona coast, and for intense daytime heat in Ponent and the Ribera d’Ebre.

All this with strong radiant sun in the morning and only some low local clouds on the coast. In the afternoon, clouds will grow again, leaving some irregular showers or some local thunderstorms in parts of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees which may occasionally reach the north of Ponent or Central Catalonia. Some will also fall in the area of Els Ports and in the interior of the Valencian Country. In the rest of the area, calm will continue, with more sun than clouds.

Friday will once again be a stifling day and thermometers will even reach their peak in some regions. But it will be the last peak of extreme heat, as the maps already predict the end of this exceptionally hot eternal summer. The weekend will begin to experience a drop in thermometers, but it will be next week when the mercury will normalize and the heat will be much more moderate and bearable.

The nights will be more pleasant and during the day the sensation of heat will be less pronounced. A normalization of temperatures that will be accompanied by an increase in instability. Showers and storms will gain ground in many regions. We will keep updating and following all of this with great attention.
