BarcelonaThe weather has remained unsettled this Wednesday in several regions. The snowfall has intensified in the Pyrenees, especially on the north face, but has also spread to the south face. The mistral and tramuntana winds have continued to blow strongly at the extremities, where speeds have once again exceeded 100 km/h. Notable were the 147 km/h reached in Portbou, in Alt Empordà, the area most affected by this north wind storm that began over a week ago. Between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, there will be cloudiness and some showers will fall between Girona and Barcelona and in the Balearic Islands, and the snowfall will continue until Thursday in the Pyrenees, although increasingly restricted to the north face. Strong north wind still, but from Friday it will clearly decrease. For the important days of Holy Week, sun and calm will prevail in all regions, with increasingly warm midday temperatures.

Weather forecast map for this Thursday morning.

Snow, some showers and wind

During Wednesday evening and night, cloudiness will increase in regions of Girona and central and northern Barcelona, which will leave some showers. Local thunderstorms accompanied by hail are not ruled out. The snowfall will continue to affect the Pyrenees, and may also jump to the south face intermittently, with blizzards and icy conditions at high altitudes. The snowline will move between 1,200 and 1,400 m. The snow depths of this episode will exceed one meter at high altitudes of the Alt Pirineu and the north face. Meteocat maintains the warnings for intense snowfall in this sector.

Forecast map for this Thursday afternoon.

The mistral and tramuntana wind will continue to blow relentlessly in the Pyrenees, pre-Pyrenees, Costa Brava, south of the country, Castelló and Menorca, both at night and throughout Thursday. The strongest gusts will once again exceed 100 km/h, and the wind will be felt again in other regions of Girona. Some strong wind alerts remain in place.

Precipitation will continue to fall on the north face of the Pyrenees throughout Thursday, but will completely stop on the south face. The snowline will remain between 1,200 and 1,400 m. The rest of the regions will be dominated by sunshine, with no risk of showers. There will only be a few in the morning in the Balearic Islands, but they will quickly disappear. There will also be some harmless bands of clouds towards the west and other areas of the Pyrenees and pre-Pyrenees. Temperatures will be similar to the previous day or slightly higher, but controlled, with many values between 16 and 21 °C.

Absolute calm in the coming days

The north wind will clearly decrease from Good Friday and will end up disappearing completely over the weekend. The sun will prevail and no more precipitation is expected anywhere. Therefore, the Easter holidays will be calm and very enjoyable, with maximum temperatures clearly increasing. We are on the verge of the most stable days in general for more than a week, coinciding exactly with the period when most people are on vacation.

The midday hours will be increasingly warmer, with more than 20 °C in many regions, but even exceeding 25 °C widely in parts of the south, Ponent, and pre-coastal areas. The thermal rise will be especially noticeable in the high areas of the Pyrenees, after so many days with a frosty atmosphere. There will be an increasingly marked thermal contrast between day and night, as well as morning thermal inversion.
