The weather won't be clear this week, with a bit of everything.
Afternoon showers will become increasingly localized, while a cold front will bring precipitation to the Valencian Community.
BarcelonaThe weather won't clear completely, and full stability won't arrive this week. We won't be seeing large amounts of accumulated rainfall, but there will still be a flow of humid air from the sea towards the ground and cold air aloft due to the proximity of a new Atlantic low-pressure system. This situation will make the weather changeable, with more showers, especially during the afternoons. Rain will be scarce in most of the country, and there will even be many periods of calm and sunshine. However, precipitation will return to the Valencian Community on Tuesday due to the passage of a cut-off low that will mainly affect the southern and western half of the peninsula. Catalonia will remain more unaffected by this situation, although some instability will persist. All of this comes after a weekend that has been still eventful and very changeable following the easterly winds (you will find a summary of the most significant rainfall data from the last few days at the end of this report).
Monday: a break in the morning and showers in the afternoon
This Monday will be a very changeable day, with plenty of sunshine and calm spells, but with sudden cloud cover increasing due to the continued instability. Early in the morning, very localized showers are possible in coastal and pre-coastal areas, but these will dissipate quickly. Generally, we can expect a calm morning with plenty of sunshine. However, between midday and evening, showers will reappear, very intermittently, in pre-coastal areas, northern central Catalonia, and the Pyrenees or Pre-Pyrenees, locally accompanied by thunderstorms. The snow level will hover around 1,600 meters. Maximum temperatures will remain moderate, ranging between 13 and 17 degrees Celsius in many areas, and there will be some swell along the coast.
New changes coming in the next few days
Over the next few days, we will continue to experience the effects of storms and fronts, which will keep the weather unsettled. Between Tuesday and Wednesday, the instability will persist, with further showers and some thunderstorms, more likely in the afternoon in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, and Terres de l'Ebre. The snow level will hover around 1,600 meters. A cut-off low will cross the western and southern Iberian Peninsula, bringing no rain to Catalonia, except in the Ebro Valley where some showers are expected. Rain, however, will affect much of the Valencian Community and the southern Balearic Islands between Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Temperatures will generally remain largely unchanged. Looking ahead to the weekend, the instability will return, with potentially widespread precipitation and more snow in the Pyrenees. All this with the return of winter weather and a snow level that could drop below 1,000 m.
Balance of the leach
Between Thursday and Friday, we experienced a sudden surge of rain that brought widespread showers, with very heavy accumulations in the northeast interior and the Els Ports area. Over the weekend, showers continued to fall almost everywhere, but more intermittently and irregularly, with periods of clear skies. During these four days, rainfall totals ranged between 30 and 60 liters per square meter in many areas, but these figures were significantly exceeded in the Els Ports area and in parts of the northeast, such as Montseny, Guilleries, Collsacabra, Garrotxa, Osona, Ripollès, and the interior of Alt Empordà. Notable accumulations included 275 liters per square meter in Els Ports Natural Park (Baix Ebre) and 252 liters per square meter in Lliurona (Alt Empordà). In terms of thickness of new snow, the 55 cm accumulated in Ulldeter (at 2,400 m from Ripollès) stands out.
