Heat and stifling heat unleashed, but the downpours do not disappear

BarcelonaThe week has started with somewhat uncertain weather. Throughout yesterday, scattered showers and thunderstorms occurred. In fact, there were storms in some regions last night, especially along the coast and pre-coast of Barcelona, although they moved at high speed and left very little water. Early this morning there will be some local showers in the northeast that will eventually clear, but in the afternoon showers and thunderstorms will repeat in the northern half, while from Wednesday onwards they will clearly decrease, coinciding with the day of the total Solar eclipse. All this with heat and humidity that will remain intense, both day and night. In fact, before the weekend, thermometers will hit their peak.

Tuesday: a bit of everything

The night has once again been warm and stuffy in much of the coast, pre-coast and south of the country, with tropical values also in more inland areas. However, the minimums have dropped a bit in general. Alerts for nocturnal heat remain in parts of Ponent, the south and the coast and pre-coast of southern Barcelona and Tarragona for the coming days. The maximums will remain similar, with many values between 33 and 38 ºC in the pre-coast and inland, and very heavy air near the sea.

All this with remnants of some local showers in the northeast early on, and sun combined with some cloudy intervals in the morning, more present in the southern half of the country and on coastal stretches, without ruling out a few drizzles. In the afternoon, clouds will build up, leaving the sky variable or partly cloudy overall. Irregular showers and thunderstorms will fall in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, and the Ports area, but also in some parts of northern Ponent, central Catalonia, and the northeastern interior. Meteocat has some regions on alert for intense rain. More calm the closer we are to the sea.

Eclipse and coming days

Wednesday stability will gain ground and only a few scattered afternoon showers are expected in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. In these areas, remnants of cloud intervals will remain at the time of the eclipse, as well as in nearby areas of the northeastern interior and northern Central Catalonia. On the other hand, in most counties the sky will be clearer to enjoy this exceptional phenomenon.

And in the coming days this situation of general anticyclonic calm will be maintained, with only some afternoon showers in the Pyrenean area. All this with a new heat peak that between Thursday and Friday will bring us extreme temperatures of up to 40 ºC in the most torrid areas of the interior. It could be the last onslaught of this long suffocating situation before a possible clear drop in mercury, especially next week.
