Heat and unbridled stuffiness, but the downpours do not disappear

BarcelonaThe week has begun with somewhat uncertain weather. Early this morning, irregular showers fell in the interior and in the Pyrenees, which were repeated in the afternoon in the north of the country and in the Ports area. And pay attention because until nightfall new showers may fall in the southern half of the territory, which will locally reach more areas, circulating at high speed and leaving little water, but they may be accompanied locally by thunderstorms. Showers that will be repeated on Tuesday afternoon, but which from Wednesday will clearly decrease, coinciding with the day of the total solar eclipse. All this with heat and stuffiness that will remain intense, both day and night. In fact, before the weekend, the thermometers will hit their peak.

Tuesday: a bit of everything

The night will be warm and muggy again in much of the coast, pre-coast and south of the country, with tropical values also in more interior areas. Alerts for nocturnal heat remain in parts of Ponent, the south and the coast and pre-coast of southern Barcelona and Tarragona. Maximums will remain similar, with many values between 33 and 38 ºC in the pre-coast and inland, and a very heavy atmosphere near the sea.

All in all with sun combined with some cloudy intervals in the morning, more present in the southern half of the country and in coastal stretches, without ruling out some drizzle. In the afternoon, clouds will grow, leaving the sky variable or partly cloudy overall. Irregular showers and thunderstorms will fall in the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees and the Ports area, but also in some parts of Ponent and Central Catalonia. Meteocat has some counties on alert for intense rain. More calm the closer we are to the sea.

Eclipse and upcoming days

Wednesday, stability will gain ground and only a few scattered afternoon showers are expected in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. In these areas, remnants of cloudy intervals will remain at the time of the eclipse, as well as in nearby areas of the northeastern interior and the north of Central Catalonia. On the other hand, in most counties the sky will be clearer to enjoy this exceptional phenomenon.

And in the coming days this situation of general anticyclonic calm will be maintained, with only some afternoon showers in the Pyrenees area. All this with a new heat peak that between Thursday and Friday will bring us extreme temperatures of up to 40 ºC in the hottest areas of the interior. It could be the last blow of this long suffocating situation before a possible clear drop in mercury, especially next week.
