The weather

The anticyclone has a lifespan of several days: when might changes in the weather arrive?

The new development this Tuesday is that the morning fog or low clouds have also spread to some coastal areas.

BarcelonaFor several days now, the weather forecast can be summarized as sun and fog, the main features of a monotonous anticyclonic situation that will continue even longer and doesn't allow us to foresee any significant episodes of rain or snow in the short or medium term. For the moment, today's weather will be practically identical to Monday's, although the difference will be that some fog and low clouds will also appear in the morning along stretches of the coast. However, clear skies will prevail and the temperature will be mild at midday, with very pleasant highs everywhere, contrasting with the morning chill. Temperatures will begin to drop and normalize from the middle of the week onwards, with less mild middays. This stable weather pattern will last for a few days, and no changes are expected until at least the weekend or the beginning of next week. From then on, instability will increase, a situation that should be confirmed.

Tuesday: another day of sun and fog

Today we wake up to widespread fog in inland areas, especially in the Pla de Lleida and the Vic plain, where it will be cold and damp until mid-morning. The fog will help to keep temperatures down wherever it appears, but the rest of the country will remain mild, with highs easily exceeding 15°C, reaching 19 or 20°C in the higher elevations. There will be a marked temperature contrast between the morning chill and the midday warmth, as well as significant temperature inversions, with much colder nights and mornings at lower elevations than at higher elevations. The new development will be the presence of morning fog and low clouds along some stretches of the coast, particularly in the southern half and the Costa Brava, but also in Mallorca and Menorca. Additionally, bands of high clouds will begin to arrive during the night, the only sign of an approaching front that will be harmless to our country.

Wednesday: a skiff front arrives

The high-pressure system will remain for most of the week, and no significant changes are expected in the short term. The only development we'll see midweek will be increased cloud cover due to the approach of an Atlantic front, which will be relatively inactive at our latitudes. Skies will be overcast in the Pyrenees of Lleida and in the western part of the region. Morning fog will give way to thin clouds in the afternoon, with Wednesday being more variable, but no rain is expected. Temperatures may drop slightly but will remain above average.

No rain on the horizon

The anticyclonic stability will persist for practically the rest of the week, with some fronts reaching the western Iberian Peninsula, but these will not be strong enough to bring precipitation to the country. Maximum temperatures will begin to drop from midweek and will gradually return to normal for this time of year. The temperature inversion will also continue, as will the temperature contrast between day and night.

The weather maps indicate that changes could arrive from the weekend or the beginning of next week, with increased instability. However, this is still uncertain, and at the moment, no significant rain or snowfall is expected in the medium term. This lack of rain will accentuate a very dry end to autumn, as it has been almost three weeks without any significant rainfall across much of the country, with the notable exception of the Pyrenees and, especially, the westernmost part of the mountain range.
