BarcelonaWe've just finished a weekend marked by very changeable weather, with a rainy and unsettled Saturday in many areas, and a sunny Sunday, but with strong winds in some regions that caused numerous incidents (you'll find the most important precipitation and wind data at the end of this report). This week, however, looks very calm, with days of splendid sunshine and temperatures gradually rising, reaching milder, spring-like values at midday. Let's not forget that we're just a few days away from officially entering astronomical spring. Today, the north wind will still blow in the far reaches, but nothing like yesterday's hurricane-force gusts, and it will dissipate as the day progresses.

Forecast map for this Monday morning.

Monday: less wind, sunshine and a mild midday

The week begins as the last one ended, with plenty of sunshine that will allow temperatures to rise more noticeably by midday, a far cry from Saturday's cold, wintry feel. However, the early morning was still chilly in some parts of the country, and we woke up to frost in several inland areas. There are few changes in the weather forecast, characterized by stable conditions and some passing bands of high clouds. The strong northerly wind that caused significant damage yesterday, especially in parts of Girona, will weaken as the day progresses. It will still be moderate to somewhat strong in the Empordà region, the Pyrenees peaks, and parts of the Camp de Tarragona and Ebro valleys during the morning, but it will gradually subside and move away in the afternoon.

Tuesday: anticyclonic monotony

The weather situation will not change much on Tuesday, with sunshine becoming even more intense, now without any high clouds. Temperatures will continue to rise, noticeably so at midday, and this will be even more pronounced in the Pyrenees, where the difference between Sunday's high and Tuesday's will locally exceed 10°C.

From Wednesday onwards, there is a risk of some showers.

The high-pressure system will remain strong over our region, but the movement of cold air and low-pressure centers in the Atlantic and the eastern Mediterranean could bring some signs of instability, which might even translate into the development of some minor cloud cover and the formation of a few showers. However, all of this is still pending confirmation, and no significant weather change is expected in the short or medium term.

Weekend summary of showers, snow, and wind

Rain affected many regions on Saturday, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail in some areas, and falling as snow at mid and high elevations. The highest accumulations were 38.7 mm in Santa Coloma de Farners (Selva), 38.4 mm in Mataró (Maresme), and 36.8 mm in Dosrius – Montnegre i el Corredor Natural Park, also in Maresme. On Sunday, the wind took center stage, with gusts exceeding 100 km/h in the northern half of the country, including populated areas. Notable gusts included 167.4 km/h at Portbou – Coll de los Belitres (Alt Empordà), 161.6 km/h at the Queralt Sanctuary (Berguedà), and 132.1 km/h at Tosa de Alp (2,478 m) in Cerdanya. All of this caused many incidents due to falling trees, while in the Pyrenees the phenomenon of blizzards occurred at mid and high altitudes.
