From 'Waka waka' to 'Dai dai': Shakira stars again in the World Cup anthem
The song will be released on the 14th
BarcelonaFIFA and Shakira have made public a fragment of what will be the new official anthem of the 2026 Football World Cup. The song is titled Dai dai and it stars the Colombian, sixteen years after her mythical Waka waka from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where she met who would be her partner for the next twelve years, Barça player Gerard Piqué. This year's World Cup will take place between June and July in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The video was recorded in the iconic Maracaná stadium, in Rio de Janeiro, where Shakira performed last weekend. She managed to gather 2 million people in Copacabana. On March 1st, she gathered 400,000 people in the Zócalo of Mexico City in a free concert. In Europe, she will offer eleven concerts in Madrid. The singer is on tour, breaking records wherever she goes: this is the highest-grossing tour by a Hispanic artist. That's why rumors already indicated that she would once again provide the soundtrack for the World Cup.
In the video, the singer wears a yellow shirt and blue pants, like Brazil's kit, while other dancers represent the uniform of other selections, such as Colombia, Argentina, and the United States. The video also features the balls from past World Cups: Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, and the North American tricolor from 2026. Shakira was the sensation of the 2006 World Cup with Hips don't lie, she did the anthem for the 2010 World Cup and repeated in Brazil's, with the song La La La. Now we will have to see if this Dai dai reaches the same level of success.
