BarcelonaThe cooling off has been significant this Friday once Thursday's strong winds have passed, with minimum temperatures dropping between 5 and 10 degrees compared to recent days, even more so in the Pyrenees. Several regions experienced the coldest early morning of the autumn so far, and some valleys in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees recorded their first frost of the season. We had to bundle up early in the morning, and midday was not very warm, with many highs between 17 and 23°C, slightly higher in the Ebro.

All this was very calm, with only a slight westerly wind in the middle of the day in some regions, nothing like yesterday's strong storm. But this last weekend of October will bring another change in the weather. Cloudiness and instability will increase, with the risk of scattered showers in several regions. Temperatures will rise on Saturday, but on Sunday they'll fall again with a vengeance, with a full autumn atmosphere and a snow level that will clearly drop in the Pyrenees. Remember that Sunday marks the start of winter time, and 3 a.m. will return to 2 a.m.

Forecast map for this Saturday.

Saturday: dull day

Cloudiness will increase significantly throughout the day, with a generally overcast sky. However, there will be some clearings, especially in the morning in the regions of Girona, northern Barcelona, and the Ebro. Rain is unlikely to occur in the morning, but from the afternoon onwards, some light, scattered showers will begin to arrive in the west and the western Pyrenees, which will spread from west to east as the hours pass and affect more regions. This will be relatively light, but the rain may increase further in the evening and into the night. In short, it will be a dull start to the weekend, and we should keep an eye on the sky.

All this with temperatures rising everywhere, temporarily, both day and night. The rise in maximum temperatures will be more modest, but minimum temperatures will rise significantly, especially due to the greater cloudiness in the early morning. More sunshine and calmer weather toward the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands, and light to moderate winds in the middle of the day in inland and central Catalonia's coastal foothills.

Sunday: a bit of everything and a full autumn atmosphere

The weekend will end with a bit of everything. During the early morning and early morning, precipitation could fall in any region, and as the hours pass, it will become concentrated along the coast. Light rain is expected, although some heavier showers are not ruled out between the regions of Barcelona and Girona. From midday and into the afternoon, the sun will shine, and little rain is expected in Catalonia, with some cloudy patches in the northeast and the Pyrenees. The situation remains somewhat uncertain.

On the other hand, the skies will remain cloudy on the northern face of the Pyrenees, with some light precipitation. Be careful with the snow level, as it will drop from 2,300 m to 1,700 m. Throughout the day, it will also rain in various areas of Valencia and the Balearic Islands, especially between Mallorca and Menorca.

All this with the arrival of the mistral wind in the Ebro, the Camp de Tarragona and Ponent regions, and the tramontana wind in the Alt Empordà region. Northerly winds of polar origin will once again sharply lower temperatures. It will be a day in the middle of autumn, with many lows recorded in the late afternoon.

Busy weather next week

The cold will bottom out early next week, with an atmosphere more typical of mid-November than late October. Frost will spread across the Pyrenees, and inland temperatures will drop below 10°C or 5°C. On the coast, temperatures will remain below 15°C at night. Nights will require a jacket or coat, depending on the area. Throughout the week, the mercury will rise, but slowly.

All this with the weather set to continue to change and change. Still with much uncertainty, the weather is expected to begin to change on Tuesday with the first showers in the Valencian Community. On Wednesday, it could see widespread rain in the Principality due to the arrival of a storm, and the remaining days are expected to be quiet. All of this will need to be closely monitored and confirmed, as we are on the cusp of the Castañada.
