BarcelonaFerran Martorell (Barcelona, 10/12/1941-30/03/2026), who was the twenty-second president in the history of Espanyol, died this Monday at the age of 84. Martorell served as the chief executive of the white-and-blue entity between July and December 1989. He was a director of Espanyol for 17 years. A publicist by profession, he is a figure much loved by the 'periquita' fans.

Martorell took over the presidency of the entity during a turbulent time: after the resignation of Antoni Baró and with the team, which was then playing in the Second Division, in a clear sporting decline. Martorell, who was then vice-president, assumed the highest office until the celebration of the elections on December 3, 1989, which gave way to the mandate of Juli Pardo. Martorell had joined the Espanyol board in 1982.

He came from a family with strong white-and-blue roots (some of his relatives had been members of Espanyol's boards) and was one of the promoters of the entity's youth academy, driving the Ferran Martorell foundation, active until 2008.
