Resigns the person in charge of the subsidized and private schools of the Government

BarcelonaNew change in the structure of the Department of Education. The until now Director General of Concerted and Private Schools of the Generalitat, Xavier Güell, has presented his resignation, as advanced by the Efe agency and confirmed by ARA. Sources from the Department of Education indicate that Güell has made this decision "for personal reasons". The resignation comes three weeks after the Government agreed to 390 million euros to address the "historic underfunding" of subsidized schools.

Güell belongs to Units per Avançar, the party heir to the extinct Unió Democràtica, of which the Minister of Justice, Ramon Espadaler, is also a member. Beyond the millionaire pact to, among other things, increase the teaching staff of subsidized schools, the until now Director General has also been responsible for executing the withdrawal of concerts from schools that segregate by sex that was initiated by the Esquerra Republicana government.

In less than half a year, two of the key areas within the Department of Education have changed their responsible person. Before Güell, last October, the Secretary of Educational Improvement, Josefa Beltran, also left her position, being replaced by Ignasi Giménez, who in recent months has been the visible face of the Government in the negotiations between Education and the unions.
