The Sagrada Família is now the tallest building in Barcelona.
When the temple is finished it will be the tallest religious building in Europe.

It's official. The Sagrada Família is the tallest building in the city of Barcelona. The temple has reached the top spot on this podium after reaching 155.58 meters in height, just above the 154 meters of the Mapfre Tower and the Hotel Arts, the two buildings that crowned the sky of the Catalan capital since 1992. The milestone reached by Anskyline of Barcelona, where, at the moment, the only taller building outside the urban area is the Torre de Collserola, at 288 meters.
Despite having reached this height record, in the coming months the Sagrada Família will still have to grow another twenty meters: with the completion of the tower of Jesus Christ – the central one – the temple will reach 172.5 meters in height, second only to Montjuïc mountain, which is the Gau of nature.
In recent weeks, the first pieces that will form the cross that will crown the Tower of Jesus Christ arrived at the church, specifically the elements of the lower arm. Work is now underway. in situ to place the different pieces such as crystals and interior details and, once the work is finished, the entire piece will be put in place: a figure 17 meters high, 13.5 meters wide, and weighing 100 tons. The Sagrada Família's board expects the great tower to be finished before the end of the year.
Now, in principle, the cross will not be unveiled until June of next year, and the interior and the tower's viewing platform—which will have a capacity of only eleven people at a time—will not be accessible until 2027. Once finished, the Sagrada Família will not only be the tallest building in Barcelona. It will also be the tallest building in Ulm Cathedral, in Germany, which measures 162 meters high.
