BarcelonaThe well-known architect Josep Juanpere died on December 26 in Baqueira, in the Aran Valley. Initially, his death was attributed to a heart attack, but the judicial investigation led by the Mossos d'Esquadra has ended up leading to the arrest of his partner, a 65-year-old woman, allegedly related to the architect's death, according to sources consulted by ARA.

The arrest took place this Wednesday at her home in Madrid. The investigation has been carried out by specialists from the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Mossos and remains under court seal. In addition to the arrest, a search and seizure was also carried out at a home in Malaga.

During Christmas 2025, he and his partner were spending the holidays in Baqueira, in a second residence of his property. On December 24, the architect had already gone to the Vielha hospital, where he spent several hours under observation after the traditional Christmas dinner. At the time, it was attributed to a supposed indigestion and he returned to his home. On St. Stephen's Day, Juanpere died at his home.

One of the first elements that raised suspicions among the Mossos was the fact that a relative of the architect, after being unable to contact him, went to the second residence and found his lifeless body. The woman was also there, apparently upset, and had not called emergency services. Initially, no obvious signs of violence were detected on the victim's body.

Initial suspicions

However, the investigation progressed and some of the woman's attitudes put even more focus on her. The police conclusion is that the man died violently, although, according to sources consulted by ARA, the main hypothesis is not that of poisoning. This investigation has been carried out with absolute secrecy within the Mossos, until this Wednesday morning the force itself made public the arrest of a woman. They had been in a relationship for approximately two years.

Josep Juanpere Miret (1953-2025) was a co-founder of the GCA Architects studio in 1986, a firm that became especially successful in the field of corporate architecture, with large office buildings in the city, and hotels. His firm designed, for example, the Mango logistics center in Lliçà d'Amunt, as well as other projects linked to the Andic family.

They also designed the building that houses the law firm Cuatrecasas, next to the Torre Agbar, in Poblenou. They participated in the remodeling of the Hotel Arts and built the Torre Puig 2, in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. These designs placed Juanpere in a privileged position among the Catalan elites and he was well known among the jet set of the country.
