Six people shot dead in Catalonia this year

A teenager died on Thursday night in Barcelona after being shot, bringing the total number of shooting deaths in Catalonia to seven in just four months. According to the latest count by the USPAC police union, as of June 1, there have been 28 shootings in the country, 45% more than the previous year, most of them in the city of Barcelona. The Mossos d'Esquadra say that the first six shooting murders are related to organized crime and drug trafficking, and suggest a gang confrontation as a possible cause for the latest incident. These are all the cases so far:

March 22

A shooting inside a music bar in Badalona ended with the death of a 37-year-old man. The confrontation took place inside the A8 entertainment venue, at number 89 on Sant Lluc street, in the Barcelona Sud industrial estate. Police officers and an ambulance went to the scene of the incident after receiving a call around one in the morning on March 22nd. Although SEM technicians tried to revive the victim, they could only certify his death.

March 28

A 28-year-old man lost his life in a fight at Parc de les Planes, in the Hospitalet de Llobregat neighborhood, in which another person was also injured. The events took place at 10:25 PM on Saturday, March 28: several witnesses alerted the emergency number 112 after hearing a loud argument followed by several detonations. The Medical Emergency System (SEM) attended to the two victims: one died at the scene and the other was transferred to a hospital center.

April 14

In April, the shooting death of a man occurred on a bar terrace in the Sant Martí district of Barcelona, in broad daylight. The victim was sitting on the terrace with his wife and son when some people approached him and shot him indiscriminately. When he was already lying on the ground and badly wounded, the attackers also assaulted him with a bladed weapon. The police received the alert at 3:50 PM on Tuesday, April 14. Medical Emergency System teams transferred the man in critical condition to a hospital, where he eventually died.

May 16

Another firearm incident in broad daylight ended with the death of another man. The shooting took place on the afternoon of May 16 in the Marina del Port neighborhood, in the Sants-Montjuïc district of Barcelona. Police sources confirmed to ARA that the man died from gunshot wounds and that initial indications pointed to an execution.

June 7

Just three weeks after the previous incident, another person died in a new shooting in the same neighborhood of Barcelona. The events took place on Mineria street on the evening of Sunday, June 7. Mossos d'Esquadra officers tried to revive the victim but could not save their life.

June 10

A man died from a gunshot wound to the head at the intersection of Balmes street and Granada del Penedès street, in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district. The incident took place in front of a National Police office for issuing ID cards and passports, and was recorded by security cameras. A man dressed in a beige t-shirt, shorts, and with a bicycle helmet in one hand and a pistol in the other, shot the victim, who lay on the ground, and then fled. The shooting coincided with the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Catalonia.

July 2nd

A minor died shot on Thursday night in Parc de la Pegaso, in the Sant Andreu district. The events took place after 10:45 p.m. in Barcelona and initial reports suggest the victim is 15 years old. Emergency services found the adolescent with a gunshot wound to the stomach and performed resuscitation maneuvers, but the boy eventually lost his life.
