BarcelonaIt was three o'clock in the afternoon when, in the middle of Diagonal de Barcelona, Two buses collided, leaving behind a tragic scene: more than 50 people were injured, and four of them remain hospitalized in critical condition. The first bus, from the Julià company, was loading and unloading some cruise passengers at a designated point, while the second, from the Canals company and carrying some Italian students on an end-of-year trip, hit it from behind. The Guardia Urbana is still investigating the causes, and has several hypotheses on the table. One of them, according to sources consulted, is that a pedestrian who was crossing the road at that moment had some role in the crash.

In fact, one of the critically injured people was right between the two buses, which reinforces the hypothesis that it was the pedestrian who was crossing at that moment and who could have forced the second bus to change course. In any case, there is still no definitive hypothesis and there is still a lot of work to be done, such as the analysis of the tachographs (the black box of the buses, which would indicate if there was a mechanical error) or the review of the security cameras. According to police sources, there are many cameras from nearby businesses that recorded the accident. The ARA was able to see one of these recordings, which is already in the hands of the Guardia Urbana and which shows how the second bus reaches the first, which is stopped, for no apparent reason.

The mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, has indicated this Tuesday in statements to RAC1 that the collision between the buses on the Diagonal could have been caused by a pedestrian, but he has asked for caution because the investigation has not yet concluded. In a subsequent address to the media from the Mobile World Congress, he limited himself to saying that he did not want to make "speculations" and that they must wait for the information from the tachographs. In fact, he has stated that the pedestrian is "involved" as one of the injured people, without pointing him out as the cause. In any case, he denied that the cause of the crash is already known.

There is another critically injured person in the ICU of the Clínic, aged 65. A fourth person is in Vall d'Hebron, with a stable prognosis within the seriousness, according to the Department of Health in a statement on Tuesday.

During the accident, four people were also less seriously injured, all of whom have now been reduced to mild. Among them was a small child who was discharged from the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu on Monday.
