"It was shocking": 53 injured in a collision between two tourist buses on the Diagonal
A group of Italian students were travelling in one of the vehicles, and the final toll is four people in critical condition.

BarcelonaA collision between two buses has left several people injured this Monday at midday on Barcelona's Diagonal avenue. According to the Medical Emergency System (SEM), there are thirty injured as a result of the accident, four of them critical. One of the critically injured is still trapped and the Barcelona Fire Brigade is freeing him, and among the injured there is also a minor in a less serious condition who has been transferred to Sant Joan de Déu.
The events occurred around 3 pm when, for reasons still being investigated, both buses collided. The events occurred at number 361 on Diagonal, opposite Casa de les Punxes, and units of the Mossos d'Esquadra, the Fire Brigade, the Guardia Urbana and the Medical Emergency System are working at the scene of the accident.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus in front suddenly braked for unknown reasons and was hit from behind by the other bus. As a result of the impact, the bus in front went up onto the pavement and hit a tree. According to witnesses, it came very close to pedestrians who were sitting on a bench. The sound of the impact was heard throughout the area.
So far, the SEM has treated 34 people and has deployed 19 ambulances in the area. Of the critically injured, one was transferred to the Hospital Clínic, one to the Sant Pau and another to the Hospital del Mar. The fourth remains trapped inside a coach.
