BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) arrested a woman this Thursday for leaving her six-year-old daughter alone in a hotel pool. The child fell into the water and, according to sources familiar with the case, remained there for more than eight minutes. The incident occurred on May 3 at 11:00 a.m. in a hotel in Calella, in the Maresme region. The child was discharged from the hospital this Thursday, the same day the 35-year-old mother was arrested by the Catalan police.

This Friday, the woman was brought before a court in Arenys de Mar's investigating court, which was on duty. She is charged with two crimes: one of temporary abandonment of minors and one of injuries due to gross negligence. The woman has been released, but with precautionary measures: her custody and parental rights over her daughter have been revoked. In this case, there is a paternal figure who can take care of the minor while the precautionary measures ordered by the judge are in effect. The couple has another child, also a minor.

Resuscitation

After a few minutes in the water, someone discovered the girl's body in the pool. The first aid, which saved the girl's life, was provided by a doctor working at the hotel, who was able to revive her. At the same time, the Generalitat's emergency line, 112, was called, and the Maresme Municipal Police, the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police), and the Emergency Services (SEM) all responded to the scene.

There was no lifeguard at the hotel pool because, due to the size of the infrastructure, it is not required by law. The case will now be handled by Court No. 7 of Arenys de Mar, which will be in charge of conducting the investigation.
