"The fight against violence against women requires sustained action from all public institutions and society as a whole, in order to advance real and effective equality between women and men," the executive argues in its statement.
This afternoon at 5:00 PM, the Navarrese government and the Eguesibar City Council have called for a rally to condemn the crime in front of the town hall.
Black Week
The murder in Navarre confirms a dark week in Spain caused by gender violence. this Friday A man murdered his 10-year-old son in the early hours of the morning in the municipality of Arona, in southern Tenerife, and left his partner and the child's mother critically injured. According to the EFE news agency, the Civil Guard shot and killed the man after he threatened officers with a machete. The 26-year-old woman remains hospitalized on the Canary Island. On Wednesday, another woman, 37, was murdered in Madrid. This case followed the double murder on Tuesday of a woman and her daughter in Xilxes (Castellón) and the murder of a nurse at her workplace on Monday in Benicàssim. With the Navarre crime, the number of women murdered in gender-based violence cases since the beginning of the year has risen to 10. This figure does not include the two minors who died in cases of vicarious violence this week. In six of the ten murders, there were prior complaints against the perpetrators. In five cases, these complaints had been filed by the victims themselves, and in one case by third parties. In some cases, the victims were registered in the Interior Ministry's system for the protection of victims of gender violence (VioGén), and in others, they had restraining orders. However, these mechanisms have proven insufficient to protect them. The Minister for Equality, Ana Redondo, acknowledged this week that risk assessments are sometimes not carried out thoroughly enough and advocated for stronger enforcement once restraining orders have been issued.
