Joan Jubany Itxart, Helena Jubany's father, has died at the age of 81. With his family, he was one of the driving forces behind clarifying the truth of his daughter's murder in 2001 in Sabadell, and he managed to get the judicial investigation reopened before it expired. The man died when his daughter's murder is still awaiting trial, and it does not even have a date yet.

Jubany Itxart was a professor of language and literature and an anti-Franco fighter. He died this Monday and his family and friends watched over him this Wednesday afternoon at the Mataró funeral home, the city where he lived. The wake will continue this Thursday morning until 12 noon, when the farewell ceremony will take place.

Last year, on November 28, Joan Jubany Itxart was among the family and friends waiting at the door of the Sabadell courts to hear a key decision from the case judge. That day, the investigating judge took a statement from Santi Laiglesia, whom the family has always considered the main suspect in the crime. After that appearance, the judge decided to send him to provisional prison, which was a key step for the investigation, which had been reopened in 2021, although a few weeks later the Barcelona Court released him.Helena Jubany was murdered on December 2, 2001, and her body was thrown from the rooftop into the inner courtyard of a building when she was in a "deep sleep or coma" due to having ingested toxic substances. They did this after undressing her and burning her in different parts of her body. Initially, the case was closed in 2005.
