A 20-year-old man arrested for raping a 15-year-old girl in Arbúcies

BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) have arrested a 20-year-old man for raping a 15-year-old girl in Arbúcies, in the Selva region. According to sources consulted by ARA, the incident occurred two weeks ago in the area behind the municipality's CAP (Central Police Station), where there is a bar that closes late. The alleged sexual assault occurred after 4:00 a.m., taking advantage of the easily accessible, poorly lit path from this area.

The victim told her parents and ended up filing a complaint. The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) arrested the young man on the evening of May 7 in the same municipality. In fact, both are residents of Arbúcies and knew each other from the town. The following day, the young man was brought before the Santa Coloma de Farners duty court, where he was released pending trial and issued a restraining order against the young woman. The detainee plays soccer for the Arbúcies team.

As a show of rejection of gender-based violence, the Arbúcies City Council has called for a rally for this Thursday at 6:30 p.m., attended by more than 600 people in support of the girl. A manifesto was read out at the mobilization, which was also attended by the victim's family, who expressed their gratitude for all the support. Meanwhile, some seventy businesses in the municipality closed for half an hour this afternoon in solidarity with the rally and to make it easier for everyone to participate.
