THE UNION denounces lack of aid for 140 rural roads by the Ministry of Agriculture
The organization highlights that only 50 municipalities receive grants for the improvement of these spaces
ValenciaLA UNIÓ criticizes that the Ministry of Agriculture leaves out due to lack of budget a total of 140 applications from municipalities to access aid for the conditioning of rural roads corresponding to 2026 and only 50 localities manage to obtain these economic supports. The organization requests that the credit of 4 million from the existing budget be increased so that no town that wishes to improve its rural roads is left without aid.
The resolution, published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV) on July 16, explains that the amount requested by the town councils exceeds the available allocation of the call, set at 4 million euros, which is why the Evaluation Commission has applied the objective criteria provided for in the regulatory bases. The cut-off line has been set at 4 points and a rurality coefficient of 0.6242, so that only the applications with the best evaluation have moved forward.
"Abandonment" of agricultural infrastructure
Furthermore, the General Directorate has declared 16 applications inadmissible for various reasons, including having been beneficiaries in the previous call, presenting non-subsidizable actions, duplication of applications, or investments outside the established limits. There are also 32 withdrawn files, in most cases for not meeting the amendment requirements.
This call is important in the opinion of LA UNIÓ because its purpose is to finance works for the permanent improvement of the surface of rural public roads, infrastructure that is totally strategic for guaranteeing access to agricultural holdings and facilitating agricultural and livestock activity in rural areas.
Carles Peris, general secretary of LA UNIÓ, points out that “the number of applications for these aids evidences the neglect of agricultural infrastructure. Not allocating more economic resources makes agricultural activity very difficult. Roads in poor condition have an impact on agricultural machinery, vehicles, and also on people due to the risk of accidents”.
