The Spanish government proposes Teresa Peramato as the new Attorney General.
With extensive experience in the fight against gender violence, she is currently the chief prosecutor in the criminal section of the Supreme Court.

The Council of Ministers, at the request of the Ministry of Justice, will begin the formal appointment process this Tuesday. Peramato is a career prosecutor with 35 years of experience and extensive expertise in combating gender-based violence. Since February of this year, she has been the Chief Prosecutor of the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court Prosecutor's Office. She is also the Deputy Prosecutor for the Protection and Guardianship of Victims in Criminal Proceedings. According to government sources, she "has the unanimous recognition of legal professionals." Coinciding with November 20th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Spanish government announced the selection of "one of the leading figures" in judicial specialization "in this area," according to the same sources.
Her resume includes her appointment in 2005 as delegate prosecutor for the section on violence against women in the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Madrid. She was also a member of the expert group of the State Observatory on Violence against Women for the preparation of the organization's first annual report (2007). She served as a prosecutor specializing in violence against women between 2021 and 2025. Regarding the appointment process, once the Spanish government approves the proposal, the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) must issue a non-binding report on the candidate.
