The Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland, Michelle O'Neill, has called for "respect for the democratic desire of the Catalan people". In a tweet, O'Neill, of Sinn Féin, highlighted the "strong support" for independence in the elections and urged the Spanish government to "respect it".
