BarcelonaFirst point of contact for the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, with all political forces –except Vox– to put an end to the educational crisis. Together with the Minister of Education, Esther Niubó, he met with the parties with parliamentary representation and they agreed on the creation of two working groups to debate and finalize a national pact on the future model of the Catalan school, and to reach a consensus on a way to increase investment in education to reach 6% of the gross domestic product (currently it does not reach 4%). Even so, the parties have shown themselves to be skeptical of the plan and the main opposition party, Junts, has once again demanded Niubó's resignation.
The minister explained in a press conference that the first group will be made up of a representative from all the parliamentary forces that wish to be involved and will be coordinated by the president of the Council of Education, former socialist minister Joan Manuel del Pozo. And, regarding the second one, it will also count with a representative of the different political colors and members of the Government, both from the Department of Education and the Department of Economy.
Niubó also assured that the political forces present at the meeting have validated the various proposals that Illa has launched during the last few days, such as the return of textbooks to classrooms, the imposition of mandatory readings in high school and the prohibition of the use of artificial intelligence until the age of fourteen. However, Esquerra has denied this and has criticized that the executive announces new measures without first having debated them with the political forces with parliamentary representation.
The only political force that has refused to attend this Friday morning's meeting was Vox. At first, the PP had also said it would not attend, but later it changed its mind and, finally, it has sent a representative to the Palau de la Generalitat. Deputy Rosa Maria Soberana, from Aliança Catalana, also attended, which is the first time she has been included in a meeting of this kind, although she was the only opposition representative who did not appear before the press.
