Actor and film director Eduardo Casanova has announced his HIV status via his Instagram profile: "Today I break this unpleasant and painful silence after so many years. A silence that so many of us with HIV have kept and suffered."

Along with the post announcing his HIV status, Casanova published a video explaining that he will release a documentary about his life produced by Jordi Évole. "I'm doing it my way, through film, which is my way of communicating," the filmmaker explained. "Above all, I'm doing it with dignity. Dignity should be the way in which all people with HIV can come out of the closet," he added.

The 34-year-old from Madrid has stated that the clip he shared is part of a documentary film he hopes will be released in theaters in 2026: "There will be time to tell more. Despite the fear and uncertainty, today I am deeply happy."

On December 1st, Casanova premiered his new series, SilenceA three-episode series that blends vampirism with the stigma surrounding AIDS. Starring Lucía Díez, Ana Polvorosa, María León, Mariola Fuentes, Leticia Dolera, Omar Ayuso, and Carolina Rubio, the series premiered in October at the Sitges Film Festival. In fact, the series originated as a collaboration between Casanova and the non-profit organization Apoyo Positivo, which supports people living with HIV. The director and actor explained that he has always been interested in the work of this organization and that when creating an artistic piece with them, he wanted to avoid a product that was overly propagandistic or fell into clichés already seen in other films or series. Casanova, born in Madrid, became known for his role in the comedy Aidawhere he played the character of Fidel, a gay teenager. In recent years, his career has focused more on directing, a field he began in 2015, when he released his first short film. Eat my shit, starring her friend and co-star in Aida Ana Polvorosa.
