BarcelonaHe's one of Britain's most prestigious actors, and now he's decided to share his innermost selves. Anthony Hopkins publishes his memoirs this November, We did ok, kid, a book in which he talks about such private matters as the school difficulties he had in Wales, the alcoholism he has now overcome, and how he has experienced fame. One of the major themes he also addresses is his lack of relationship with his daughter Abigail, 57 years old and born from his marriage to Petronella Barker, his first wife.

Abigail Hopkins was a child when her parents divorced in 1972. The actor has been married twice more: in 1973 to Jennifer Lynton, whom he divorced in 2002, and in 2002 to his current wife. During the 90s, father and daughter reconnected and Abigail even appeared in two of Hopkins' best-known films, What remains of the day and Shadow floors. However, since then the relationship has deteriorated to the point that they are currently out of contact. In an interview in New York Times On the occasion of the publication of his memoirs, the actor says he has turned the page on this matter. "My wife, Stella, sent him an invitation to come see us. We didn't get a word in response. Fine. I'm not wasting any more time. If he wants to waste his life living resentfully, go ahead. That's not my way of being," he reflects.

Hopkins assures that he too could live installed in resentment for things from the past, but that this would be "like dying." "You have to accept one thing: that we are imperfect. We are not saints. We are all sinners and we are all saints, or however you want to put it. We do the best we can. Life is difficult. Sometimes, you get hurt. Sometimes, we hurt. But you can't live like that. All I can say is 'I get over it, but if you can't get over it, you can,'" adds the star ofThe silence of the lambs.

When asked if he thinks his daughter will read the book, Anthony Hopkins says he prefers not to answer, although he adds that he doesn't care whether or not she is interested in his memoirs. In 2006, Abigail Hopkins, who is a musician, spoke to the Telegraph about her relationship with her famous father, with whom she hadn't spoken for five years at the time. Regarding a possible reconciliation, she asserted that it was only feasible if both parties were willing. "I never know how I would feel about it. We've never been very close. We've never talked about the big issues in life because our relationship was always very sporadic. I never felt like I could talk about these things with him," explained Abigail Hopkins, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2020.
