The official website is still being updated, but in the upper left corner it already says: "The Trump Kennedy Center." And on the facade of the grand theater in Washington, the regime change has been fully displayed: "The Donald Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial for the Performing Arts." At this rate, American children will soon be pledging allegiance to their president instead of the flag each morning at school.
Not a day goes by without news of his megalomania: the grand ballroom he's had built in the White House, the insulting comments he's made about his predecessors in the photo gallery (he's especially cruel to Biden because he won it), the pathetic attempts to get himself the Nobel Peace Prize... all the provocative little ribbon of a very dangerous personality. He's not only deployed the National Guard but has also reinforced the censorship of anyone who wants to work in or simply visit the United States. Dehumanizing people, eliminating the opposition, ending freedom of expression and academic freedom, systematically threatening the world—starting with neighboring countries—flirting with the idea of staying in power for several more years. The history of the 20th century has similar chapters that ended very badly.
Things will get worse. In 2026, Trump will have two major platforms: the 250th anniversary of independence and the World Cup final, which will be held in New Jersey. And in November there will be the midterm elections, which will be treated as a plebiscite. In the long campaign that awaits us, we will witness something more violent and authoritarian than Napoleonic coronations. In Europe, we have a project based on human rights and democracy that is faltering under the Russian threat and American contempt. And we have a voice and a vote. Use them now while there is still time.
