BarcelonaNew pricing change at Netflix. The leading streaming platform has decided to discontinue its basic plan, which allowed ad-free access to its catalog for €9.99 per month. In fact, this option had not been available to new users for months and was only available to previously subscribed customers, who have now received notification that this plan will be discontinued in September.

From now on, the video-on-demand service offers two options if you wish to maintain your subscription. Either accept ad breaks for series and movies, at a cost of €6.99—the plan that will be applied by default—or upgrade to the standard plan, which costs €13.99. The news comes as no surprise, as Netflix had already announced this move in January 2024 in a letter to investors. Most platforms have recently raised their prices: there has been a general increase in prices for ad-free versions, while they have also introduced ad-supported options to add a new line of business.

The change comes less than a year after they raised their prices, and the standard plan has become one euro more expensive. This plan differs from the basic plan because it offers Full HD resolution (1080p) compared to the 720p of the cheapest option, and also because it allows the simultaneous connection of two devices, instead of one.
