Basté, Bundó, Nina, and Bob Pop are driving the launch of La 2Cat, RTVE's Catalan-language channel.
The new brand will be available from October 13th.

BarcelonaModesty and ambition. These two seemingly antithetical terms were the ones that Oriol Nolis, director of La 2Cat, won out this Tuesday at the official presentation of RTVE's new Catalan-language channel, which finally begins broadcasting next Monday, October 13. Modesty because the 11 million budget for program purchases cannot compete with the more than 70 million allocated by TV3, the undisputed leader in television in the country. But ambition because, with a few tricks—such as leveraging the premium sports rights purchased by the parent company—it is believed that it can break through and compete, even though the speeches speak of complementarity.
In fact, the hesitation in the name evidences this relationship with the inevitable rival. Although the presentation referred to the channel as La2 Catalunya and La 2Cat, the buzzword that will be seen on screen is 2Cat, which inexorably refers to the 3Cat of the Generalitat's media. The slogan 'The one who speaks like you' also allows for interpretations. In any case, while we wait to see how this fight for the audience meters is resolved, today it has been revealed what the entire lineup for this new window will be like, which incorporates professionals such as Candela Peña, Jordi Basté, Xavier Bundó, Nina and Bob Pop.
In the mornings they will continue to have Gemma Nierga, who will serve her Ideas Cafe half an hour earlier, from 7:50 a.m. Then, at 10:35 a.m., it will be time for a second dose of informative caffeine with The second coffee, by Cristina Villanueva. It will be at one o'clock in the afternoon, when Marco Chiazza will take over to put on The speaker in the courtyard, a political discussion space with live connections when current events require it.
After the morning magazines, it's time for the news, with Aina Galduf (Laura Mesa on weekends) and the weather forecast from Sònia Papell and Sergi Loras. Sports will close out this blog on weekdays, with the program Facing the hut, directed and presented by Marc Martín.
The afternoons will kick off with a classic from La2's programming, Know and win, the game show hosted by the tireless Jordi Hurtado for 29 years, which will continue to be broadcast in Spanish. In fact, Catalan is expected to account for between 60% and 70% of the total programming during this first phase, which culminates in December. At 4:35 p.m., it will be Danae Boronat's turn, who debuts a new time slot for her show. The speaker, which is now in its third season.
Another of the evening news is the space Here on Earth, the Catalan version of the famous program that has been one of the mainstays of La1's programming schedule thanks to the connection Jacob Petrus has achieved with the audience. During his presentation, the Manresa native explained that he was excited, after a twenty-year career in Madrid, to finally be able to broadcast television in his native language. From there, he will move on to another new program: Brutal kitchen, a healthy cooking show with simple recipes, by Chef Bosquet.
The second news block arrives at dusk, with the newscast hosted by Rubén Urdiales, at 8:30 p.m., just before giving way to one prime time with several of the new channel's strong bets. On Tuesdays, for example, Xavier Bundó will debut on the television medium with The year you were born, a format that revives the childhood of two Catalan celebrities through conversations with the presenter and using surprising images from the No-Do. It will be followed by Long ago, a program led by cultural journalist Montse Soto that delves into RTVE's vast video archive.
The network wants to tint Wednesdays pink, with Mamarazzis Pop&Cor, hosted by Laura Fa and Lorena Vázquez, who noted that the tone would not only be pink, but also violet, due to the feminist perspective they want to give the program. That day, Candela Peña will take over, with the format An afternoon with..., which will bring together the actress with several of the country's personalities, according to the presentation dossier, "far from the stereotypes of a single Catalan identity." The meetings, co-directed by Bob Pop, will take place in unusual locations.
Thursday will be the day of cinephilia, as a series will begin where some of the most successful contemporary Catalan-language films will be shown.
Other programs that have been presented, still without a premiere date or location decided on the schedule, are Sequence plan (an uncut interview by Jordi Basté), All these were fields (humor in suburban Catalonia, by comedian Judit Martín), And you, what would you do? (philosophy and moral dilemmas presented by Patrick Urbano) and Great Tonino (a guest's review of life through songs with Nina and pianist Laura Andrés). In the afternoons, actor Peter Vives will host a language-based quiz show. Another program that will be added is Talented people, a series of interviews with people who have been recognized by the Princess of Girona Foundation.
And, to ensure an audience for the launch of the new programs, RTVE will offer football in Catalan again, starting on the 14th, with the match between the Spanish and Bulgarian national teams: it had been 27 years since the broadcaster last broadcast a football match in Catalan. the red one in Catalan. Copa del Rey matches and possibly World Cup matches are also planned.
