Barcelona144 years ago the Sagrada Familia began and for more than 100 years it has been the undisputed symbol of Barcelona. If the Eiffel Tower defines Paris and the Empire State defines New York, there is no doubt that what defines Barcelona, and almost Catalonia, is this basilica which has recently become the tallest religious building in Europe. Next Tuesday, the 10th, it will be a century since Antoni Gaudí, the architect who dreamed it up and designed it, died. In fact, he dedicated 43 years of his life to it and is buried there. Pope Leo XIV will commemorate his centenary with a mass, in which he will also bless the Tower of Jesus, the central and tallest of the complex.

Five years ago, in November 2021, we made a special Gaudí newspaper we interview its delegate president, Esteve Camps, about the challenges of the coming years; and we focus onIn the dossier, we address the future of the temple with a review of what remains to be done; we interview its delegate president, Esteve Camps, about the challenges of the coming years; and we focus on the quarry where the material with which what is missing will be built is kept, and also on the most symbolic sculpture of the entire temple, the Agnus Dei.

In each section, moreover, there is a report or an analysis focused on specific aspects of the temple: the always difficult relationship with the neighborhood's residents, how its financing works, what its ideological and political context was, yesterday and today, or its relationship with the Vatican. We do not forget the architectural innovations or the construction milestones, such as the tallest crane in the country, nor what personalities from various fields think of it. In addition, on all pages of the newspaper there is a frieze with anecdotes, stories and curiosities surrounding the Sagrada Familia and Gaudí.

And, an always relevant aspect, the graphic treatment is also specific and goes beyond the spectacular images of its architecture, which we collect in part in the dossier. In the newspaper, we wanted to show the people who visit the temple. Thus, the only color images on the news pages will be the author photographs by Francesc Melcion and Pere Virgili of people looking at the Sagrada Família. We put the focus and light on the people who observe it, like us, because here too is where the spectacle is.
