The United States again attacks Iran and accuses it of violating the ceasefire

The Central Command has reported the action as a response to the latest Iranian attacks against commercial vessels in Hormuz

WashingtonThe United States has once again opened fire on Iran this Tuesday night, as reported by the Central Command of the army (Centcom) in a statement. Among the targets are Iranian air defense systems, coastal surveillance systems, and launch positions for drones and anti-ship cruise missiles, according to a US source revealed to Reuters. All of this constitutes a new aggression within Iranian territory. Although it is not the first: last May Washington already attacked Iranian installations in an escalation that threatened to break the ceasefire, which did not happen.

Despite the precedents, the new outbreak occurs amid the preliminary agreement signed in Versailles to allow the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and negotiations between the delegations of the two countries to end the conflict definitively.

The action would again be a reactive maneuver, as the army justifies it as a response to Tehran's attack on "manned commercial vessels." Between Monday and Tuesday, at least three ships circulating through the Strait of Hormuz have been targets of Iranian missiles. "The US attacks are in response to Iranian aggressions against three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's aggression has been unjustified, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire," the Centcom statement reads.

In parallel, Iranian state media had reported explosions east and west of Bandar Abbas, a city located on the coast with a strategic position in the strait and home to the main Iranian navy base. In May, Bandar Abbas was already a target of US projectiles. The other place where explosions have been reported is around Sirik, in southern Iran, according to these same sources.

According to the International Maritime Organization, one of the attacked ships was carrying Qatari liquefied natural gas and was in waters near the coast of Oman. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Tehran of the attack and condemned the action, stating that it was an attack "against the safety of international maritime navigation."

A few hours before the attack became known, the United States had revoked the waivers on sanctions that allowed Iran to sell oil for 60 days starting from the end of June.
