BarcelonaUS President Donald Trump has once again gone off the rails. This time, it wasn't through statements or comments to the press, but rather in writing, targeting his predecessors. The White House has installed several plaques with critical and accusatory comments beneath the portraits of former presidents hanging on a wall of the presidential residence, a building until now considered a symbol of national unity by both Democrats and Republicans.

"Sleepy Joe Biden was, by far, the worst president in US history." This phrase can be read from Thursday beneath the signature of the former Democratic president, the only one without a portrait in the room, where he is represented by a photo of his signature. Trump also accuses Biden on the plaque of having won "the most corrupt election in history," and says he made "unprecedented use of his signature."

The plaque beneath former President Barack Obama describes him as "one of the most divisive political figures in American history," an adjective that several historians aptly apply to Trump. The inscription labels him "highly ineffective."the health reform promoted by the Democrat, known as ObamacareHe calls the nuclear agreement with Iran "terrible," and points out that Trump "terminated" that pact and also withdrew the country from the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The plaques don't just target former presidents. Under Bill Clinton's portrait, the text presents Hillary Clinton as "President Clinton's wife," and emphasizes, with an exclamation point at the end of the sentence, that in 2016 she "lost the presidency to President Donald J. Trump!"

Even former President George Bush isn't spared from opinions and criticism. Although Bush is also a Republican, the former president hasn't supported the current US leader. The text under his image states that Bush started wars in Afghanistan and Iraq that "shouldn't have happened."

The White House's decorative changes

The White House has defended the texts on what is known as the Presidential Walk of Fame, claiming they are "eloquent" descriptions of each president's legacy. In fact, a statement details that, "as a history student, many were written directly by the president himself."

The changes are part of a broader set of modifications to the White House decor under Trump's presidency. These changes, according to spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt a few weeks ago, are a "priority" for the US president.

The most striking modification is the demolition this fall of the east wing of the official residence to build a ballroom. But the changes at the White House had begun long before. From his first day in office, Trump replaced the soft, sober tones that Biden had installed in the palace with gold elements, which have multiplied throughout the building. This color, in addition to being associated with power and wealth, is reminiscent of Trump Tower in New York and the US president's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

Trump renames the Kennedy Center after himself

This Thursday it was also announced that Trump has renamed the Kennedy Center in Washington, the nation's premier performing arts center, after himself. From now on it will be called the Trump-Kennedy Center, according to an announcement by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on social media. She emphasized that the center's board of trustees, chaired by Donald Trump himself, voted "unanimously" to change the name of the complex to thank "the incredible work the president has done over the past year to save the building."

After taking office, the Republican leader dismissed the Kennedy Center's board of trustees, replaced it with his allies, and proclaimed himself president of the institution. Since leading the institution, founded in 1971, Trump has ordered the removal of content woke of the programming, in line with the culture war he is waging in various areas.

Trump also renamed the U.S. Institute of Peace after himself and launched a campaign review of the contents of the Smithsonian Institute, which manages the major museums in the capital, to align them with its ideology.
